SOAK Bible Study Method...

I  have created a page that you can use for Bible Study.  It contains the SOAK method of Bible Study.

Download it here: https://tinyurl.com/SOAK-SWS-GIG

What is the S.O.A.K. Method of Bible study?

This method is simple and similar to the SOAP method.  This method is often using in conjunction with the Bible Coloring Chart. (This is a chart that helps you highlight words in the Bible using specific colors to represent certain words.)
It is based on Colossians 3:16.

The S.O.A.K. Method is an acronym to help you easily remember the steps:

S- Search
Write the Scripture.

O- Absorb
Observe what the verse is saying and determine what it is saying to you.

A- Apply
Apply the verse to your life.

K- Respond
Kneel in prayer and pray.  Then, write your prayers in your journal.

My thoughts: Again, this is a simple Bible study method that you can use to dig into the Word of God.  It is similar to the SOAP method, except it encourages you to get down on your knees.  I did not use it in conjunction with the Bible Coloring Chart. It does help you be better at praying because you verbally pray, then write out your prayer.

SOAR Bible Study Method...

I  have created a page that you can use for Bible Study.  It contains the SOAR method of Bible Study.

What is the S.O.A.R. Method of Bible study?

This method is simple, but helps you apply and respond to God's Word.

The S.O.A.R. Method is an acronym to help you easily remember the steps:

S- Search
Search the Scripture.

O- Absorb
Observe what the verse is saying and determine what it is saying to you.

A- Apply
Apply the verse to your life and what is currently happening in your life.

R- Respond
Respond with a personal commitment, insight, or thought about the verse.

When you finish with the scripture writing.  Pray a prayer that applies or incorporates this verse.

My thoughts: This is a simple Bible study method that you can use to dig into the Word of God.  It is similar to the SOAP method.  I like that it adds an area that you can respond to God's Word.  Responding to God's Word is vital.

SALT Bible Study Method...

I  have created a page that you can use for Bible Study.  It contains the SALT method of Bible Study.

Download it here: https://tinyurl.com/SALT-SWS-GIG

What is the S.A.L.T. Method of Bible study?

This new Bible study method is based off Matthew 5:13:
“You are the salt of the earth, but what good is salt if it has lost its flavor?”

The best way to keep our “salty” flavor is to know God. That's the goal of this method: KNOW GOD.

The S.A.L.T. Method is an acronym to help you easily remember the steps:

S- Supplication
Pray earnestly and humbly. This is a time where you can get real with God. You can tell Him you're disappointed, angry, bitter... He already knows.

A- Absorb
Meditate on the verse or verses; write it out; say it out loud.

L- Learn
Read several verses above and below the one you are focusing on. Putting the verse in context is paramount to understand what God is really trying to say.

What words do you need to look up? What questions do you have that you need to research?

T- Thanksgiving
Thank God for who He is.

(Y)- You
What does this verse look like in your life?

And, that's it. A new Bible study method that’s not only easy to remember but let’s you know God better.

My thoughts: I learned about this method as I began researching various Bible study methods.  It was an interesting method that asked you to dig deep as you explored the Word of God.  I enjoyed using it and I found it to be an easy way to get into studying the Bible.  I use this method for items related to my fiction writing.

SOAP Bible Study Method...

I  have created a page that you can use for Bible Study.  It contains the SOAP method of Bible Study.

One method is the popular S.O.A.P method.

WHAT DOES S.O.A.P. MEAN?

S– The S stands for Scripture- you physically write out the scripture……you’ll be amazed that what God will reveal to you just by taking the time to slow down and actually write out what you are reading!

O– The O stands for observation- what do you see in the verses that you’re reading? Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you?

A– The A stands for Application- this is when God’s Word becomes personal. What is God saying to me today? How can I apply what I just read to my own personal life? What changes do I need to make? Is there an action that I need to take?

P– And finally P stands for Prayer. Pray God’s Word back to Him. If He has revealed something to you during this time in His Word, pray about it. Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life.

Studying God’s Word like this can take as little or as long as you have time to give. Some days it can take just 10 or 15 minutes, other days longer.

My thoughts:  I discovered this method when I began my Faith/Bible Journaling journey.  It was a method used in the Happy Planner Faith line.  I enjoyed using it.  It is very popular and most people are familiar with it.  It is easy to use.

What You Need to Journal

Just in case you are new to this, here is a list of what you will need to Faith/Bible Journal.

A Bible… You can use a physical Bible or a Bible App. You will need this to read Bible verses or passages.

A Dictionary… You can use a physical dictionary or a dictionary app. You will need this to look up words. You can also have a Bible dictionary or commentary for further and deeper exploration of the Word of God.

Paper or A Notebook… You will need something to write on unless you want to go digital. You do not need anything fancy, a spiral or composition notebook is great.

Pen or pencil… You will need something to write with unless you want to go digital. A Bic Pen or a Dollar Tree pen both work the same.

An open heart… You must be open to exploring what is on your heart, mind, and spirit without limiting or stopping yourself. Be willing to be raw and open with yourself & God.

A willing spirit… You must be open to letting yourself write. Do not say... "I can't write!" Just write. It may take you awhile to get in the habit of writing, but do not give up. Keep writing!

About the Prompt Lists...

There are two different lists.

One is a list in month format.  It is a calendar you can print out.  You will have to add the month and the dates on it.  It is designed so you can pick whichever month you want to pick.

The other is in list format.  It is a list that you can print out.  You will have to add the month on it.  It is designed so you can pick whichever list you want to pick.

The files are PDFs.

Faith/Bible Journaling... A Discovery...

I have been a jounaler since I was nine years old.  I learned from watching my Grandmother journal.  Read this post to learn more about my beginning into writing.  So, journaling is nothing new to me.  But Faith/Bible journaling is.

I began writing notes from sermons in the 90s.  I would write the notes from the sermon, look back at them to reflect, and then file them away.  I never wrote anything about the notes or anything, but I would back and read them from time to time.

I have always used a planner ever since I can remember.  I am very anal and the way my undiagnosed ADHD is… I needed some way to keep myself organized.  I usually used whatever calendar or planner I could find.  I just wrote in it and that was that until I purchased a planner that had stickers in it.  That is when I began my creative planning journey.  I then began looking for planners with stickers in it.  I did not get that deep off into it, but I had been bitten by the creative planning bug.

I began Bible journaling in November 2018 when I was in Michael’s and saw a calendar by Happy Planner.  It was a Christian Planner.  You could write sermon notes, write notes of reflection, and keep track of a few other faith themed items.  I found stickers, washi tape (oh my… what was that!), pens, and much more.  It was a whole thing.  Thus, began my full-fledged journey into creative planning.

I searched through the internet and found groups that could help me with my new obsession.  But the only thing I could not find was a place that had Faith journaling prompts.  No one listed any.  There were sites that discussed what Faith and Bible journaling was and how to do it, but no one had any prompts.  I let it go… I was a writer, so I could write on my own.

What is Faith/Bible Journaling?  I am glad you asked.

Bible journaling…
“A Bible journal is a hybrid diary where you keep both notes on your study of the Bible and a record of things that happen in your everyday life.”  For a more in-depth definition.
Source: Penzu Inc.

Faith journaling…
Faith journaling is creatively expressing your faith in God using a variety of mediums.  It helps you with your growth.  For a more in-depth definition.
Definition by Me.

For all intents and purposes, Bible Journaling and Faith Journaling are often used interchangeably from what I have seen, although they are two different things.  Bible journaling is done in a Bible and Faith journaling can be done in a Bible, but it is mostly done with pen and paper, usually in a journal.

But I feel that they can be two separate things.

A while back, one of the members of the Christian Faith Planners and Journals asked if there were any places to find a list of journal prompts that were faith based.  The answer is no.  I asked her if she wanted me to come up with a list and she said yes.  I asked her a couple more questions, and the list just flowed.

By the time I was done, I had 14-15 months’ worth of prompts.

Faith Journaling Defined...

Faith journaling is creatively expressing your faith in God using a variety of mediums (which includes pen, paper, paints, stickers, washi tape, and more), connecting with scripture, God, and yourself.  It is reflective in nature and allows you to see your growth in God, while taking a retrospective look at where you are in God.  It provides you with reminders, reflections, assessments, evaluations, examinations, criticisms, musings, contemplations, mementos, admirations, compliments, honors, devotions, celebrations, and remembrances to look over.  It helps you with your growth.

Definition by Me.

Bible Journaling Defined...

“A Bible journal is a hybrid diary where you keep both notes on your study of the Bible and a record of things that happen in your everyday life. Over time, as you analyze and study the Bible, you can apply what you've learned to your life experiences, which may make it easier to overcome difficult situations.

A Bible diary is a type of reflective journal where you use your study of the Bible as a guide to make sense of why certain things that you encounter in your life happen the way that they do, or are the way that they are. Doing so may prompt you to change your actions or perspective.”
