120 Days to Consistent Time with God (Days 41-80)

Prayerfully, you have had success with the first 40 days.  I believe establishing a routine is the best way to be consistent.

To Continue to Grow…
First, increase your purposeful time by 5 minutes for both the morning session and evening session.

Second, be sure you have a quiet place to spend time with God.  By now, you and your family should know that you have a routine place you go and will not bother you.

Lastly, remember why you are doing this… to become more consistent in spending time with God.

During these 40 days, focus on reading, praying, and writing out the verses.  Do not worry about getting deep with the at this point.  We will get to that later.

The Process
In the Morning
Start with this affirmation…
I am purposeful with my devotion with God, which leads me to a consistent G.A.M.E. time. (Click here for the graphic forthis affirmation).

Read the Pocket Prayer:
Read the scripture.
Pray the prayer.
Write out the verse (you can write it on a sticky note and paste it in your journal or you can write it out in your journal).

At Night
Start with this affirmation…
My time with God blesses me, therefore it is a priority in my life. (Click here for the graphic for this affirmation).

Read the Pocket Prayer:
Listen to Psalm 145 on this YouTube video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_qW3mSfBRs
Read the scripture and the prayer.
Write a prayer thanking God for toady’s accomplishment on the same page with the scripture for that morning.

Example:  Lord, thank You that I was able to grow today.  Thank You that You showed me that Jesus cares about me.  Thank You that I am growing in my G.A.M.E. Time with You each day.

You should be growing, now.  Be sure to not put extra pressure on yourself at this time.  Just keep going.  Keep pushing.  Keep moving forward.

120 Days to Consistent Time with God (Days 1-40)

I believe in starting small.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.  Zechariah 4:10 (NCV) says…
people should not think that small beginnings are unimportant.”
So, even the Bible tells us it is okay to start small.

To Get Started
First, set aside 10 minutes first thing in the morning, just after waking up.  This may mean waking up ten minutes earlier or forgoing a step in your morning routine.  By doing it this way, you start your day with God, making it the ultimate priority.
Also, set aside 10 right before going to bed.  Just as with the morning, you may need to make some adjustments.  But, you will go to bed with Jesus as the last thing on your mind.  Making time with Him your priority.

Second, find a nice quiet place where no one will bother you.  My place… the bathroom.
Now, do not make a face or talk badly about me…  Think about it, for the most part it is quiet and in general, no one will bother you while you are in there.
So, do not tell my parents I told you, but that is what I saw them do.  I saw my mother read and pray in the bathroom, and so did my father.  That is what I do and why I do it.

Another good place is the closet.  It is even better if you have a door to it.

No matter where you are, find a quiet place where no one will bother you.

Lastly, do not focus on quantity during these days.  Focus on quality.  What we are doing here is establishing a routine to build consistency.

During these 40 days, focus on just reading and praying so that you can get in the habit of reading and praying.

The Process
In the Morning

Start with this affirmation…
My time with God is important to me, so much so, that I make it a priority every day.
(Click here for the graphic forthis affirmation).

Read the Pocket Prayer:
Read the scripture.
Think about the scripture focusing on the words, one by one.
Think about what the verse is saying to you.

Pray the prayer.
Think about the prayer focusing on the sentences, one by one.
Think about what the prayer is about.

Using a post-it or sticky note, write down the scripture information.
e.g. Galatians 6:9
(remember… we are starting small so that we can build a routine)

Underneath the scripture information, write down what the prayer was about.
e.g. not getting weary

(You can add these to your faith journal by gluing or taping them in your journal or you can clip them on your wall or another place that you can go look at them often.)

At Night

Start with this affirmation…
I create consistent GAME Time because my quiet time with God is important to me, so I make it a priority. (Click herefor the graphic for this affirmation).

Listen to Psalm 63 on this YouTube video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCd2XlbgX_4
Read the scripture and the prayer.

It is that simple… That’s how I got started…  And that is how you can get started, too.

120 Days to Consistent Time with God (Prayer)

Before we begin… Let me pray for you.

Lord,
Thank You that You care for us.  Thank You that You love us.  Thank You that You want us to have a relationship with You.  I pray for the person who is beginning this journey.  I pray that You will an open heart, calm spirit, willing mind, and an eager zeal to spend time with You.

Let the journey be as easy as possible.  When they do well, let them feel a sense of triumph and success.  When they miss a few days, give them peace and unction them to get back on the journey.  Let them have more good days than bad days.

Let them learn more about You as they grow closer to You.  Let the Holy Spirit be with them as He guides them into the truth of You and the importance of spending time with You.

Let them walk out James 4:8… grow close to You and then You grow close to them.

Father, we thank You and praise You for success in this journey.

In Jesus’ matchless name,
Amen

GAME Time Explained

I have adopted the phrase… GAME Time for my devotion.  The Holy Spirit gave it to my husband when he was speaking for a group of young adults at a church we used to attend.  When he spoke of it, he was so excited about it.  From the moment of the engagement, he’s used the phrase GAME Time when referring to his personal devotion time with God.

GAME Time stands for GOD and ME Time.

I asked him how he came up with it, he said,
“It was placed in my spirit.  Since it was good, it came from the Lord.”
He further stated that he mulled the ACRONYM in his head.  After a while, he noticed it in a Bible study book.  That confirmed it for him.

After a few years of hearing my hubby say it, I have slowly adopted the acronym into my lexicon.  I encourage you to adopt it, too.

120 Days to Consistent Time with God (Explanation)

I'm a member of a Facebook group called, Christian Faith Warrior & Faith Happy Planner, War Binder, Faith Journal.  It’s a fellowship of Christians who endeavor to express their faith, trust, and belief in God through Planning, Journaling, and similar endeavors.

A member asked… “How much time do you spend journaling a day/week? Do you have a routine in place?”

I respond with my process…  Then I posted, “I can share the specifics.”  A couple of people responded, “Please do.”

At first I thought about sharing my process fully, but after starting, the Holy Spirit touched my heart and suggested that posting my full process would overwhelm people more than help.  I was lead to share the steps of how I got to my process.  Thus, the 120 Days… was created.

Walk with me through this journey over the next five weeks.  By the end, you should be at a place where you can have consistent GAME Time (God and Me Time).

120 Days to Consistent Time with God (My Personal Testimony)

For years, I struggled with my alone time with God.  I grew up in an environment where I saw my mother spend 45 minutes to an hour on the phone with her prayer partners praying down fire from heaven.  I went to a church where the members would pray during the pray time at church for an hour or more.  The way my undiagnosed ADHS was (is) set up, tasks, skills, assignments that take some effort to do or that I do not have an interest in are hard for me to concentrate on for more than 15 minutes at a time.

So, as an adult, I felt inadequate, unworthy, pitiful because I could not sit still and pray for more than 15 minutes or read my Bible for longer than 15 minutes.  I would try it and feel guilty, then give up for a time after shrugging my shoulders.  I would not spend time with God for days, then feel guilty and remorseful for days on end until I made myself feel so unworthy that I felt I was destined for hell.

It was a horrible existence.

One day, I was somewhere and found a copy of Pocket Prayers by Max & Andrea Lucado.  I shook my head in doubt and disgust, thinking, “This won’t help me.”  I put it down and started to walk away.  Then I felt a tug at my heart saying, “Go look at it.”  I did.  I flipped to the first page of the book and read…

“Hello, my name is Max. I’m a recovering prayer wimp. I doze off when I pray. My thoughts zig, then zag, then zig again. Distractions swarm like gnats on a summer night. If attention deficit disorder applies to prayer, I am afflicted. When I pray, I think of a thousand things I need to do. I forget the one thing I set out to do: pray.”

My eyes got big.  I read it again.  Tears formed in my eyes.  As I quickly wiped them away, because I was in a public place, as I flipped to the first prayer.  It had a Bible verse, one verse.  And a short prayer.  I smiled and quickly ran to purchase the book.
It would take about 10 minutes to read and pray.  I could do that.  I was so excited.

A $2.00 book saved my Christian life!!!

As I walked to my car smiling, I said to myself, if someone as famous as Max Lucado struggled like I did, I can do this.

It was at this moment, I purposed in my heart to go through the book.

Did I get it right the first time I tried it?  Nope, I went two days straight and then missed eight days.  But, I picked it back up and started again on Day 1.

Did I get it right the second time I tried it?  Nope, I went a whole week days straight and then missed two weeks.  Again, I picked it back up and started again on Day 1.

Did I get it right the third or fourth time?  Nope, I struggled those times, too.  But, I picked it back up and started again on Day 1 until finally, I got into a habit of doing it on a regular basis, with regular consistency.

But, this time, it was so different… I did not feel the guilt, let down, devastation that I had before trying to do it like I had seen as a child.

I had started to grow in GRACE

Now, I am consistent with my GAME time (as my hubby calls it)… God & Me Time.  I can even last close to 20 minutes without getting antsy. J  It took some time, patience, and dedication, but I did it and so can you.
