Holy Grit Gratitude: A 7-Day Journaling Challenge

Giving Thanks When You Feel Strong, Weak, or Somewhere In Between

Gratitude is a spiritual weapon. It is not just a feeling we experience when life is going well—it is a faith-filled declaration that God is good, even when life feels hard. It is a deliberate choice to look up, speak life, and root your resilience in remembrance.

If you are walking through the 12 Months of Holy Grit journey or simply navigating a season that requires strength, this 7-day gratitude challenge is your invitation to slow down, reflect, and give thanks for what God has done, is doing, and will do—even in the messy middle.

Be Resilient on Purpose.

Why Gratitude Strengthens Resilience

Gratitude does not deny hardship. It simply chooses to focus on the God who remains faithful in the midst of it.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.” — Psalm 77:11

When we give thanks:

  • We break the spiral of discouragement.
  • We make space for joy in hard places.
  • We build spiritual memory—and faith for the next battle.

How This Challenge Works

Each day includes:

  • A short gratitude prompt
  • A related Scripture
  • A journaling question or reflection
  • A one-line declaration of thanks to write and speak aloud

You can do this in your journal, your notes app, or even out loud during prayer. The goal is intentional thankfulness—even if it is just one sentence a day.

Day 1: Thank God for Keeping You

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer…” — Psalm 18:2
Prompt:
Where would I be right now if God had not sustained me?

Declaration:
God, thank You for keeping me when I thought I would fall.

Day 2: Thank God for Progress You Almost Missed

“Do not despise these small beginnings…” — Zechariah 4:10
Prompt:
What small step of growth am I thankful for—emotionally, spiritually, or practically?

Declaration:
God, thank You for the quiet progress that is building strength in me.

Day 3: Thank God for Who He Is (Not Just What He’s Done)

“You are good, and what You do is good…” — Psalm 119:68
Prompt:
What name or attribute of God am I most grateful for today?

Declaration:
God, thank You for being my ____, even when circumstances shift.

Day 4: Thank God for a Hard Lesson That Grew You

“It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn Your decrees.” — Psalm 119:71
Prompt:
What struggle or disappointment has shaped me for the better?

Declaration:
God, thank You for the strength that came through my breaking.

Day 5: Thank God for Someone Who Carried You

“Bear one another’s burdens…” — Galatians 6:2
Prompt:
Who showed up for me in a season of weakness? How did that impact my walk with God?

Declaration:
God, thank You for placing the right people in my life at the right time.

Day 6: Thank God for a Promise You Are Still Waiting On

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for…” — Hebrews 11:1
Prompt:
What has God promised me that I am still believing for? What hope keeps me going?

Declaration:
God, thank You for the promise I have not yet seen but still believe.

Day 7: Thank God for Today

“This is the day the Lord has made…” — Psalm 118:24
Prompt:
What small moment today brought light, laughter, or comfort to my soul?

Declaration:
God, thank You for today—for breath, life, and this moment with You.

Final Word: Gratitude Builds Grit

Gratitude is not just about feeling better. It is about seeing clearer.
It is about remembering that God is still moving, even when you are still waiting.
It is about giving your heart space to breathe when pressure wants to squeeze it.

Whether you wrote one line or filled several pages—you practiced holy grit this week.

Because faith that thanks God in the middle of the story?
That is the faith that finishes strong.
