Jesus is the fullness in Colossians.
Not partial. Not limited. Not a starting point.
He is everything—Creator, Sustainer, Savior, and Lord.
If Philippians shows us Jesus in humility, then Colossians shows us Jesus in glory.
Paul writes this letter to a church being pulled in
different directions—false teachings, empty philosophies, spiritual
distractions. And his answer is not complicated. It is not a debate.
It is Jesus.
Jesus, the Image of the Invisible God
Paul does not hold back. In one of the richest
Christ-centered passages in Scripture, he declares:
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn
over all creation. For in Him all things were created... all things have been
created through Him and for Him.” (Colossians 1:15–16)
Jesus is not a wise teacher.
He is not an angel or an assistant to God.
He is God.
He is the one through whom everything exists—and the one in whom everything
holds together.
I read that and exhale.
Because if Jesus holds creation together… He can hold me together too.
Jesus, the Head of the Church and the Firstborn from the
Dead
Paul keeps building.
“He is the head of the body, the church; He is the
beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might
have the supremacy.” (Colossians 1:18)
Jesus is not just supreme in heaven.
He is supreme in the Church.
Not just on Sunday. Not just in theology books. But in how we live, lead,
worship, serve, and love.
He is not just the beginning of life—He is the first to rise
so we could rise too.
Jesus, the Mystery Now Revealed
Paul then shifts to something intimate and beautiful:
“To them God has chosen to make known... the glorious
riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
(Colossians 1:27)
Jesus is not just over us. He is in us.
The mystery is no longer hidden.
The treasure is not behind a curtain.
It is Jesus. And He lives in us.
Not religion.
Not legalism.
Jesus.
Jesus, the Source of New Life
In chapters 2 and 3, Paul dismantles every attempt to add
rules or rituals to Jesus.
“You have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head
over every power and authority.” (Colossians 2:10)
You do not need to earn your way.
You do not need to fear darkness.
You do not need to perform or impress.
Jesus is enough.
And through Him, you have been raised to new life.
So Paul calls us to live like it:
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your
hearts on things above, where Christ is…” (Colossians 3:1)
Jesus Is the Fullness. Fix Your Eyes on Him.
Colossians reminds me not to be distracted.
Not by rules.
Not by titles.
Not by impressive arguments or spiritual trends.
Because Jesus is the fullness.
Everything I need for salvation, for strength, for hope, for clarity—it is all
in Him.
So I fix my eyes.
I steady my heart.
And I declare with Paul:
“Christ is all, and is in all.” (Colossians 3:11)
