Living with Purpose: How to Live Intentionally Daily Based on 2 Corinthians 5:17

Living intentionally every day can be challenging, but it is vital for spiritual growth and personal development. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we are reminded that when we become new creatures in Christ, old things have passed away, and everything has become new. This verse should inspire us to live intentionally every day, making conscious efforts to align our actions with our faith. In this article, we will explore practical ways to live intentionally every day based on 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Understanding 2 Corinthians 5:17
2 Corinthians 5:17 is a powerful verse that reminds us of the transformative power of salvation. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we become new creatures in Him. Our old ways and behaviors pass away, and we are given a new life in Christ. This new life should be characterized by intentional living, making conscious efforts to align our actions with our faith.

Making Intentional Choices
Living intentionally requires making conscious choices every day that align with our faith. One way to do this is by setting daily goals that reflect our faith and values. These goals can be as simple as reading the Bible daily, praying regularly, or volunteering at a local charity. By setting goals that reflect our faith, we can be intentional about how we spend our time and energy.

Cultivating Positive Habits
Cultivating positive habits is another way to live intentionally every day. This includes habits such as exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and getting enough sleep. By prioritizing our physical health, we can ensure that we have the energy and stamina to pursue our goals and live intentionally every day.

Nurturing Relationships
Nurturing positive relationships is also an essential part of intentional living. This includes building strong relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. By investing time and energy in these relationships, we can cultivate a supportive network that helps us stay focused on our faith and goals.

Practicing Gratitude
Practicing gratitude is another powerful way to live intentionally every day. This involves taking time each day to reflect on the blessings in our lives and express gratitude for them. By focusing on the positive aspects of our lives, we can cultivate a mindset of abundance and joy, even during difficult times.

Embracing Change
Living intentionally also requires embracing change and being open to new experiences. This includes trying new things, taking risks, and stepping outside our comfort zones. By embracing change, we can grow and learn in new ways, deepening our faith and understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Overcoming Challenges
Living intentionally every day can be challenging, and we are bound to face obstacles along the way. However, by relying on our faith and staying focused on our goals, we can overcome these challenges and emerge stronger and more resilient. This includes staying connected to our faith community, seeking support from loved ones, and staying committed to our goals.

Living intentionally every day is essential for spiritual growth and personal development. By making conscious choices that align with our faith, cultivating positive habits, nurturing relationships, practicing gratitude, embracing change, and overcoming challenges, we can live lives that reflect our values and beliefs. As we embrace 2 Corinthians 5:17, let us remember that we are new creatures in Christ, and everything has become new.

2021: I Will Be INTENTIONAL

My word for this year (2021) is intentional.

I was unable to even write for personal projects in 2020 once the pandemic hit.  I was somewhat hurt by this, but the writing I did in 2020 was spiritual.  So, once again, I decided to complete the writing project once again.

I struggled with finding a word for about two months.  It was nearing the end of December and I became frustrated.  I didn’t want to spend 2021 frustrated again.  So, I became to pray, while I used various Word of the Year pages to try to help me find a word.  (Here is a link to a resource you can use to help you with finding your word of the year.)  Nothing came.  I didn’t want to give up on finding a word, but I was very close to doing so.

I was doing something else and I heard the song “Intentional” by Travis Greene begin to play in my head.  I brushed it off, but then, the song kept playing in my head over and over for a week.  After that, my word was intentional.  I want to be intentional with everything I say and do.

I am ready to be intentional.

Wayne Dyer is my inspiration for this year.

As usual, I created an ACRONYM for INTENTIONAL.  This was very liberating for me because it helps me see clearly how I needed to go about accomplishing my goals.

I am ready to be intentional and accomplish some great things this year.

John C. Maxwell reminds me to embrace and intentional life.

Sunday Adelaja reminds me that even if it gets hard, I must keep going.

And most importantly, God settles it.

Intentionally Navigating My Life Purposefully

In a culture that glorifies busyness and thrives on distraction, intentional living is a spiritual discipline. It calls for awareness. It requires discernment. And it demands that every step be aligned with a higher purpose. The theme Intentionally Navigating My Life Purposefully is not simply about better time management or clearer goals—it is a call to live with divine focus, rooted in wisdom and guided by the Spirit of God.

This theme flows from the biblical charge found in Ephesians 5:15–17:

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (ESV)

These verses serve as both a mirror and a map—reflecting the need for spiritual attentiveness and offering direction for a life anchored in God’s will. They do not point to a rushed or reactive existence. Instead, they invite the believer to slow down, to examine the path ahead, and to walk in step with God's purpose.

What It Means to Navigate Life Intentionally

To navigate life intentionally is to reject aimless living. It is the choice to live with purpose in the midst of pressure, to remain grounded even when life feels uncertain, and to embrace growth even when it requires discomfort. Intentionality is not about control—it is about alignment. Alignment with God’s truth. Alignment with His timing. Alignment with His purpose for each moment.

This kind of navigation does not happen by accident. It is cultivated. It is practiced. And it is often shaped by the rhythms of scripture, prayer, reflection, and surrender.

Living intentionally involves:

  • Spiritual clarity – filtering decisions through the lens of God’s Word rather than cultural expectations or emotional reactions.
  • Purposeful direction – allowing one’s values and faith commitments to shape goals, actions, and relationships.
  • Sacred pace – resisting the pressure to rush, choosing instead to move with wisdom, discernment, and peace.

Twelve Intentional Touchpoints

A year of intentional living is shaped by meaningful, Spirit-led focus areas that invite both reflection and action. These twelve intentional touchpoints represent a pathway toward living on purpose, guided by the truth of God’s Word. Together, they form a full picture of what it means to walk wisely and purposefully throughout the year.

Each touchpoint builds on the one before it, creating momentum and depth across all areas of life—spiritual, emotional, relational, and practical.

·         Intentional Living – Choosing to be present, purposeful, and aligned with God’s will in every area of life.

·         Renewal – Allowing God to refresh the heart, mind, and spirit through reflection, rest, and transformation.

·         Positivity – Guarding thoughts, words, and attitudes with joy, gratitude, and godly encouragement.

·         Purpose – Embracing divine design and understanding that life has meaning beyond the moment.

·         Worship – Honoring God daily, not just through song or service, but in spirit, truth, and lifestyle.

·         Compassion – Extending kindness, mercy, and empathy as a reflection of God’s love toward others.

·         Forgiveness – Releasing the weight of offense and walking in freedom, humility, and reconciliation.

·         Belonging – Recognizing identity in Christ and building community rooted in grace and truth.

·         Direction – Seeking God’s guidance and making wise decisions grounded in prayer and discernment.

·         God’s Word – Anchoring life in Scripture, allowing it to shape beliefs, behaviors, and boldness.

·         Thankfulness – Cultivating a grateful heart that sees God’s hand in every circumstance.

·         Jesus’ Love – Resting in the unshakable truth that we are loved, chosen, and redeemed by Christ.

These touchpoints are not just topics to study—they are invitations to live with focus, maturity, and spiritual intention throughout the year.

A Spirit-Led Year of Focus and Growth

Intentionally Navigating My Life Purposefully is more than a yearly goal—it is a spiritual posture. It invites believers to live with their eyes wide open, hearts fully engaged, and spirits tuned to the whisper of God. It says:

  • “I will not waste the time I have been given.”
  • “I will not let the noise of life drown out the voice of the Lord.”
  • “I will walk carefully, faithfully, and deliberately.”

This theme is especially relevant in seasons of transition, uncertainty, or renewal. It calls the believer to evaluate not just what is being done—but why and how it is being done. It encourages reflection, reordering, and recommitment.

And at its core, it proclaims that a life rooted in intentionality is a life that honors God.

Final Reflection

To intentionally navigate life is to trust that God’s purpose is not only real—it is reachable. Through daily surrender, consistent time in His Word, and a heart postured toward growth, every believer can begin to live not just with intention—but on purpose.

This is not a journey of perfection. It is a journey of presence. A journey of discernment. A journey of transformation.

And for anyone willing to take the next step, this year offers a sacred opportunity:
To live wisely. To live purposefully. To live intentionally.

My Faith Journey 2021: Being Intentional after A Year of Chaos

This is the year I choose to slow down. After the chaos and unexpected upheaval of 2020, I realize that rushing is no longer serving me. The world is still unpredictable, but I am learning that I can be steady even in the midst of it all. I must be intentional—with my time, my thoughts, my faith, and my focus.

Intentional is not just a word I picked for the year. It is a call to live on purpose. To be present. To navigate each day with prayerful awareness, even if the path is not always clear.

I want to lean into God, not out of urgency, but out of discipline. I want to stop merely reacting and start responding with wisdom. I want to build a rhythm of renewing my mind, realigning with God's Word, and remembering that small, thoughtful steps can still lead to transformation.

So this year, I will choose to live on purpose. I will take deep breaths. I will write with clarity. I will pray with expectation. And I will listen—not just to what is loud, but to what is lasting.

To help me on this journey:

So this year, I created a rhythm to help guide me:

·         Intentionally Navigating My Life Purposefully – A yearlong monthly Bible Reading Plan anchored in Ephesians 5:15–17 and focused on one intentional word each month.

·         31 Days of Prayer for Schools – A back-to-school prayer journey with daily scriptures, prayers, and challenges beginning 31 days before the academic year starts.

·         Through the Psalms Reading Plan – A six-month devotional journey with one verse per day from each psalm, followed by a month of selected Psalm reflections.

·         Grateful on Purpose – A four-month Bible reading and journaling plan designed to help you live with daily gratitude and intentional focus from September to December.

These plans are simple, but meaningful. They help me slow down and stay aligned. They give me space to reflect, room to grow, and encouragement to keep going.

Join me if you would like to do so.
